***MANCHESTER MUSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK***

The fine people have given "DUKE TYPE A" by TO THE BONES album of the week.

DUKE TYPE A * album of the week *

:: To The Bones ::
10 November 2008 / Medici Records / 10 Trk CD
By Manuel Ecostos

The very first quivering rumble of “Judith” is like an earthquake… and then the assault begins. Menacing, driving, relentless. “Duke Type A” is the album that To The Bones have always threatened to make and after a series of low budget, but no less thrilling singles and split releases, they’ve taken the sound of the Bolton underground to the masses. The public will soon realise that there’s no Peter Kay themed rock here, but the noise of LA on fire, Hollywood Hills exploding and the kind of mangling distortions that can only be described as high speed death race collisions. But To The Bones don’t just growl, they delightfully sneer too, as “Rex” thunders out a bass line well off the Richter scale and the vocals step in like a super-scary version of The Mission. The album melts into a melee of oceanic skirmishes and familiar reference points; “Tycho” and “Sharkies Bone Symphony” guide you through other spine tingling, nerve shredding episodes (“Sonic Mammoth”, “To The Fucking Bones”). Hard hitting but reassuring stuff from the these northern musical atomic warheads.
