Kerrang! Magazine Error.

Hi there everyone. Just want to bring it to your attention that there has been an error in this week’s Kerrang! Magazine.

We were listed as the main support at the William Control gig that is reviewed in this week’s issue. The reviewer then mentioned that we are a ‘middle aged electronica band’. This, as I’m sure you all know, isn’t true.
Electro?!?!?

It turns out that the reviewer mistook the main support band, Contra Mundrum, for us, and reviewed them in our place, believing them to be us.

So don’t worry – we haven’t suddenly aged or adopted keyboards. We’re still To The Bones...

Hope Kerrang will sort this out and our good name won’t be sullied for too long...

***MANCHESTER MUSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK***

The fine people have given "DUKE TYPE A" by TO THE BONES album of the week.

DUKE TYPE A * album of the week *

:: To The Bones ::
10 November 2008 / Medici Records / 10 Trk CD
By Manuel Ecostos

The very first quivering rumble of “Judith” is like an earthquake… and then the assault begins. Menacing, driving, relentless. “Duke Type A” is the album that To The Bones have always threatened to make and after a series of low budget, but no less thrilling singles and split releases, they’ve taken the sound of the Bolton underground to the masses. The public will soon realise that there’s no Peter Kay themed rock here, but the noise of LA on fire, Hollywood Hills exploding and the kind of mangling distortions that can only be described as high speed death race collisions. But To The Bones don’t just growl, they delightfully sneer too, as “Rex” thunders out a bass line well off the Richter scale and the vocals step in like a super-scary version of The Mission. The album melts into a melee of oceanic skirmishes and familiar reference points; “Tycho” and “Sharkies Bone Symphony” guide you through other spine tingling, nerve shredding episodes (“Sonic Mammoth”, “To The Fucking Bones”). Hard hitting but reassuring stuff from the these northern musical atomic warheads.

To The Bones – Duke Type A (Medici Records)
Chris Long

Just what are To The Bones? It sounds like an odd question but the truth is that despite their glorious riffs and big drums, it’s one that everyone who encounters them is hell-bent on answering.

Some take a look at the long locks and love of comic book art and push them in the direction of heavy rock. Others take their surging choruses and grizzled vocals and point them towards grunge.

Both of those opinions are wrong. If you really do want to stick them on a list, then you could probably file the Bolton four piece under heavy indie post-rock – but in all honesty, you’d be better off just shoving on this, their energetic debut, and just enjoying the whole thrilling, dynamic, electrifying brilliance of it.

To The Bones - Duke Type A
They are a band who wear their vast expanse of influences high on their sleeves – across the ten songs, nods to The Stooges, Motorhead, the Pixies and Queens Of The Stone Age all pop up, as do a myriad of others – but the beauty of 'Duke Type A' is that is undoubtedly the sound of To The Bones and no-one else.

Whether it’s the out-of-control rollercoaster of 'Sonic Mammoth', the tense, brooding paranoia of 'Lips On Red' or the dizzying pace and muscle of 'Sharkies Bone Symphony', the tight, frenetic finery of the band is present in spades.

Top of the pile are 'Rex' and 'Cay Augustina'. The former’s power was fine enough to make Manics producer Dave Eringa insist the band work with him, the latter has the intoxicating ability to make you try and start a mosh pit even if you're listening alone.

These two tracks alone are enough to sell the splendour of To The Bones to anyone. The fact that they come surrounded by eight more gems only makes it better.

With this much determination and talent on show, 'Duke Type A' should be the first step along a glittering path to stardom, regardless of how they’re tagged.

Tour Diary Blog 1. Basingstoke, Oxford and Chelmsford.

Smell it, smell the road, smell the service station, smell the sweat of your fellow men in confined spaces ( not really they actually smell very good ) and the diet of biscuits, chrisps and caffine. Bread in the mix and your on your way as a full fueled rock diesel punk rock n fuckin roll machine. Gear crammed in the back of the van with Tommy T-bone in total blackness if not for the small torch whilst reading a book on "MR. E." The rest of us in the front cockpit listening to mundane radio while the sun goes down and drive like a monster to Basingstoke. Money at an all time low and PUNK ROCK 101's hind legs kicking in like a horse on steroids.

We're rushing around a lot today. People laughing at the fact of how late we are to travel from the north all the way down to chelmsford. We're not worried, we know we'll get there, and we did. The light lounge in Basingstoke. We didnt really get to see the sights of basingstoke, but we got to see a HSBC and that was about it. The show was "ok". The bill was a bit random......a vintage prog band and an acoustic artist. ! The set list consisted of new album tracks in various orders over the nights.
We did the show, bagged our shit up and headed off to oxford to stay over where we were to play the next day at " The wheatsheaf" with the DRESENS. ( Winnebago Deal side project)
Oxford rocks. The wheatsheaf rocks. Things started to pick up as soon as we hit Oxford. Good venue. good £2 burgers and faster than lightning nitro food.
Great crowd at the Wheatsheaf and killer sound.
Last day off to chelmsford which is in Essex. I was relieved of my Van driving duties and i could finally sink a few beers.Fuck me. 2 days, 2 gigs not a drip of fucking beer. We headed to the BARHOUSE in Chelmsford. A very trendy looking bar. Partially receptive crowd including a pasionate 'bez' type charater dancing throughout the set. Interesting. Fill the petrol tank up, we're back off to the north around midnight. Arrive back in the mother land around 4am. Sleep. Wake up. Sort out supplies and gear for the next three shows starting this thursday at the METRO in London.

Next up, London, Brighton and York.

Red. ( as promised )

Over and out.

Manchester Evening News Live review - TO THE BONES @ Manchester Academy August 22nd 2008.

To The Bones @ Club AcademyMark Hesford 26/ 8/2008

THINGS don’t get much more surreal than walking into Club Academy and finding 200 13-year-olds souped up on Coca Cola.
…Not to mention lemonade, Vimto and possibly sherbert dip too, for tonight is the ‘Sonic Boom Under 18’s Rock Night’.Essentially, it’s a youth club straight from a Top Man marketing exec’s dream, and the audience - looking somewhere between the cast of ‘Skins’ and ‘Grange Hill’ – go ape to everything the DJ spins, from ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ to ‘Billie Jean’.
But it’s only when To The Bones take to the stage that things get really weird.
The Bolton four-piece launch into ‘Cay Augustina’, a snarling powerhouse of a song that hits like a ton of bricks and within minutes, these formerly innocent-looking youngsters are popping their ‘psycho-rock’ cherries and bouncing off each other in what could well be their first ever slam pit.Brutal one
It’s an understandable scene; the TTB musical experience is a brutal one. The drums pound you to the floor, the vocals and guitars slash wildly at your jugular while the bass rifles through your pocket for your car keys. Before you know it, you’re lying helplessly in the back seat as your assailants take you on a trip through '90s alt rock, '70s punk and even '80s thrash and hardcore in brief spurts.Images of everyone from Kurt Cobain and Johnny Rotten to Lemmy and Henry Rollins flash before your eyes.
From the dark sleaze of ‘Lips On Red’ to the barely controlled explosions of ‘Sharkies Bone Symphony’, the group pack a punch like a brass-knuckled fist and within half an hour, the kids are left well and truly pulverized.Tonight’s show is just further evidence that To The Bones could well be the most ferocious band in Britain, and if you miss how powerful Queens Of The Stone Age used to be before they lost it, they could well be the band you’ve been waiting for. Prepare to be eaten alive.

A shout out for Art.

Its simple as this. You just have to check out this artist.

Our friend Jack has been busy over the past weeks creating the art work for the present and future To The Bones musical releases. This guy is sooooo slick its unreal and perfect person to work with who has the sheer creative ability to read our minds and transcribe it onto paper. For example, the current booklet art for 'Sonic Mammoth' Versus ' Sharkies Bone Symphony ' was started in this way.....

"I'd love a prehistoric mammoth going head to head with a Shark !"

- Anthropomorphism kicks into gear and the creatures are half man half beast in a titantic battle where buildings are being destroyed and debris is flying everywhere in a city scenario.
We have more coming over the coming weeks. - and A LOT of very cool stuff coming your way.

A Trailer?

We have a trailer out thats been taken from some live footage captured during a recent video shoot for our new forthcoming single 'Rex.' It's live sound, live action and it looks fucking radical. The FINAL video itself ( which is now complete ) looks....well....wait and see. The song 'Rex' was re-recorded by the legendary ' Manic Street Preachers ' Producer Dave Eringa who we found a total blast to work with in early July 2008. The session was completed in 24 hours( Just as the NME.com headlines revealed ) and the track and music video will be available for your viewing/listening pleasures soon.

We believe rock music is very important, especially when its done the right way. Ballroom dancing 101 here we go......

SHARKIES BONE SYMPHONY Music Video on MTV2 - 120 Minutes

Hello this is Reppion here.

Check the music video for the current ' To The Bones' Single - SHARKIES BONE SYMPHONY which is effectively one side of our double A side single out now.

Explanation for this music video? A lot of people do ask the question are we quite "ok" mentally when they see this video, they ask if we are sadistic, they ask if we are masochistic, they ask if we like ' Saw ' movies, Tarrantino films and general "shit pant" factor cinema as a whole! Sure we like some of it but we don't live by it.

Well, a lot will find that we aren't exactly like that, the concept came from a rather strange source. I have a feeling as you all begin to get to know us all more you'll find us all having the mentallity of four school boys when together. The idea spiralled off into new worlds when Wayne ( who's wayne...?Do some research ) said ( when idea boucing ) he'd like to be tied up to a bed and mauled by attractive nurses and such. We all laughed.......and the ideas continued onwards.................." lets get things like meat thrown at us...", " lets get burt reynolds in it...." etc etc. - Just general banter.

From that the " treater " of the film who is worldwidely knows as ' Yarky ' came up with the concept of each of us having our own "weird" scenes where I would be watching on several TV's members of To The Bones being tortured or fucked around with. To this, Wayne got his "dreams" answered when he was tied to the ceiling with thick rope, surrounded with plastic where then two attractive females dressed in very small fitting nurses costumes pelted him violently with raw meat in red food colouring and effectively eaten alive by these insane Nurses for an hour. Wayne felt the pain.

Matthew - well probably the most physically harmed of us all , was placed in a straight jacket on a cold, wet concrete floor in a deserted grey factory room where then three( again attractive females ) in military costumes came into the scene and beat him in the back with metal poles.
The first hits to matthew were soft like you would imagine " acting "to be.........to this the director said, " he's being tortured, stop hitting him like a puppy and hit him like you mean it !"

For an hour Matthew was beaten from different angles, and it wasn't warm at all, you could see the steam coming off Matthew's body. At the end of the long scene....Matt took off his straight jacket soaked to the bone and his back was ripped up, cut, bruised and red raw! NO kidding you -there's a photo knocking around somewhere.

Tommy T-Bone was dressed in his suit and shades, controlled by two robotic looking females where then they made him slice his chest with a knife and lick his blood. ( Not real ofcourse ).
Myself was given the scene of losing control in my Red room with my old style Televisions and dull coloured metal sculptures made from car parts and electrical goods. These, with the TV's where destroyed by myself at the end of the scene.!

To top all this off we mixed in a performance section to the video where i began lightly with lots of wind fans pushing blue card type material through the air as we jammed to then being sprayed with 50 litres of COLD COLD COLD COLD ( did i say COLD? ) Red Paint. It was VERY messy..............but admittidly very exhilerating to be sprayed in this paint. A video where we all pushed ourselves to the limit for our "art." Its our art never the less. Verdict? Mentally scarred and a lot of fun.

More photos can be found on the myspace and all you insomniacs, late night drinkers/smokers can catch the video on MTV2 120 Minutes. Here is the video of "Sharkies Bone Symphony"...Thanks.

Welcome.

Welcome to the blog for the uk rock act TO THE BONES .

All the mysteries, the happenings, the colours, the language, the lyrics, the brain, the art, the everything.

TO THE BONES have just finished recording with manic street preachers producer Dave Eringa. The session was very inspiring. The session was set for 24 hours only from a story which made headlines at NME.com recently. Dave Eringa effortlessly captured the essence and rock sound of To The Bones. Three stacker amps set to 11 in a small room - the room shuddered like and earthquake. The track that was recorded was the track 'Rex' which is set to be the next single out in september following the current double-A side single 'Sharkies Bone SYmphony' Versus 'Sonic Mammoth' - Sonic Mammoth has enjoyed radio play by the likes of Zane Lowe on BBC radio 1's fresh meat and John Kennedy's Xposure + lots more, whilst the music video for 'Sharkies Bone SYmphony' is currently on the mTV2 120 minutes show playlist. To The Bones also performed an exclusive live session for XFM exposure's 'One night stand' which went out live on air on JUly 22nd 2008.

The band are also confirmed to perform this years OFFSET FESTIVAL 2008 sharing stages with larger acts such as My Vitriol, Future of the left, Blood red shoes, Fightstar, Ghost of a thousand and even larger current scene indie bands such as Young Knives and Maccabees.
